Bootiful day: Justin Mays and SPIN direct support professional Gee Culmer take part in last year’s Boo & Brew 5K.

Special People In Northeast Inc.’s Boo & Brew 5K and After Party will take place on Sunday, Oct. 14.

Proceeds from the costume-themed 5K and After Party will benefit SPIN, which assists children and adults with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities. SPIN also provides early childhood education for children of all abilities.

Nearly 500 people are scheduled to participate. The 5K and 1-mile fun run will be held at Neshaminy State Park, 3401 State Road in Bensalem, at 11 a.m.

The fun will continue for participants, spectators and supporters at Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company, 909 Ray Ave. in Croydon, for an after party from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“This is our seventh annual 5K, and we are excited to bring back our spooky Boo & Brew theme for the second year in a row,” said Kathy McHale, president and CEO of SPIN.

“We can’t wait to cheer on all of our runners, walkers and rollers through the finish line. It’s supporters like these that help SPIN create a ‘Life of Possibilities’ for the children and adults we support.”

A family-friendly event, children and adults of all ages and abilities are welcome. Costumes are encouraged.

The 5K will bring participants through the paved and natural trails of Neshaminy State Park. The 1-mile fun will immediately follow along a flat, paved loop featuring “trick-or-treat” fun.

Registration and the costume contest will open at 9:30 a.m., with the costume contest closing at 10:30 a,m.

Awards will be presented by Aetna to top performers and best costumes. Food trucks, including Chewy’s and Dump N’ Roll, will be onsite. Family fun will include pumpkin and face painting, a bounce house and games.

Those age 21 and up will be able to purchase beer favorites from Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company.

Sponsors include Aetna, Mat’s Pharmacy & Medical Supply, Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, Superior Restoration, Steamfitters Local Union 420 and the Northeast Times.

Pre-registration is open. Walk-up registrations are welcome.
